This restored vintage Bakelite bracelet is a 5/8" wide "domed" shaped bangle. It has been restored to its original beautiful semi translucent pale yellow color with opaque white marbling.
Over the years the patina had oxidized into a butterscotch color and the white marbling had become obscured by the aging patina. (See photo #10 for pre-restoration color and results of Simichrome polish test)
The bracelet has now been restored to its original gorgeous semi translucent colors, the surface wear removed, and the bangle looks fantastic!! The bracelet has a 2.5" interior diameter and weighs 22 grams.
NOTE: As a necessary part of the refurbishment process, surface dirt, scuffs and scratches and the existing patina are removed.
Reaction of the Simichrome polish with the aged patina is what results in a positive yellow positive result when testing using that method.
Sunlight not only causes the color of the Bakelite to change over time, but sunlight also draws the chemical that reacts to the Simichrome polish in Bakelite to the surface.
So until the bracelet has been exposed to sunlight for some period of time, a restored bracelet will not test positive with Simichrome polish.
This bracelet did in fact test positive for Bakelite using the Simichrome polish test prior to restoration. (See photo #10) There are no chips or cracks in the bracelet.
